I had a first "operative" talk with my professor today about my work, he has been very kind and explained me in short words the actual theoretical background behind agn feedback and the problem of the luminosity function. I missed some details but in the overall I have a somehow better idea now, plus another article to read from a certain Darren J. Croton which coupled with the other article by Hopkins et.al. will be at the very heart of my thesis.
The other activity of the day has been looking for a graduation gift for my friend Paolo: usually It's very hard to find something appropriate, but luckily this time we had a clear idea in mind: a big plushie Owl, just like those ones he loved to draw during the lessons. I found a trudy one, only 65€ only. But it's a damn funny gift :)

I subscribed to New Scientist, I'll get 4 issues for just 5$! but the best part is that finally I can read all the paid-articles on their website :)
Oh and I've bought myself a little toy, a Western Digital external hard drive - WD My Book Essential 320Gb. I will use it for a once-for-all backup of all my lifetime files since I've started doing backups... 1998 maybe? I wonder if those cds will still be read-able...
And now I'm once again out of money :p

I honestly could never expect that today's exam could go so well having devoted no more than 5 full days of study to its cause.
Nonetheless, it went veeeeeery good and so I'm happy. Very. I've been a bit over-rated maybe, and lucky aswell, got asked questions I was quite prepared into (absorption lines deformations, opacity equations and behaviour, nuclear chains and the density-temperature diagram), but that's it.
One thing's done, next please: tuesday's written exam: Algebra and Geometry. THAT will be hard.
We'll see. I had another thing to write down but actually I've forgotten... ffs...

I fought the law and the law won, I fought the law and the law won.
I did almost everything that was to be handed in to graduate, today, yet not everything. I missed only a photocopy, only a damn photocopy which was required according to some (including the chief secretary), not required according to others (including department secretaries). For sure, the faculty website doesn't list it amongst the required papers.
So tomorrow morning I'll have to go to that office again, and waste another whole morning. Yeah.
Everything was going smooth, my professor was available (9,00) and quickly officialized my title thesis, which is now "Coevolution between AGN and galaxy clusters". woa.
Then I managed to recover some informations and papers from my department office (11,00), as well as a very first number in the queue for the general faculty office. Altho I was the first to get there (12,45), had even to fight to get my queue number when they started delivering them (at 13,30). And for one time I can't even put all the blame on italians since there was also a couple of japanese trying to steal MY number. A disgusting scene, all the people were pushing and pressing and stealing other ppls' numbers trying to obtain the first ones.. Freaking animals.
Anyways, I managed to get the #6... and while waiting for the office opening (14,30), a very nice girl from biotechnology who I had just met there, made me notice I missed a photocopy amongst the other papers.. it was quite a *oh crap* scene.
So I could only recover the payment module, go to the bank, pay it.. and instead of returning to deliver the package (yes you have to do the 300ppl queue two times, first to get the module, then to hand in. Italy, baby), I just went back home to make the missing photocopy (17,30. talking about wasting time?).
Not to mention the 10+ phone calls I made in the morning and afternoon, asking informations. No one even answered. Just when I made a clerk to phone the chief secretary, he had the magic number (private) and I could get some answers..
If I hadn't an exam monday, I could say it has been funny.

So today I was relaxing a bit at the pc after lunch, before starting study again, reading random stuff and I thought to check, by chance, my university page's FAQ.
With great surprise I discovered that the deadline to hand in all the office/bureaucracy papers to be able to graduate in December is... next saturday. That be embarassing, as I thought I had time until... erm, say october at least.. I immediately phoned to a couple of friends who already have done all this (smart guys) and got all the informations I need.. so I'll rush to the departement office tomorrow morning to fill in all the required stuff, and to talk with my professor about the official title of the graduation project, which is needed in those papers.
I hope that "AGN feedback in cluster galaxies" will do.
Still, the chance to graduate in Dec is somehow faint, yet it is not zero. hence the hope :D

I've been silent for a couple of days, as today I had my electronic exam. It went pretty well and I'm very happy for this, since I won't have to deal again with diods, transistors, BJT, FET, digital circuits, flip-flops, shift registers and so on for the rest of my life!
Now. Next monday I want to do the second part of an exam about stellar astrophysics. I did the first (written) part in July and now it's time to finish it. 5 days only, it won't be easy at all, nonetheless I'll try, it's just about studying 6-8 hours a day. Coffee, pills, and a bit of good luck will do.
